Bush va annoncer dans quelques minutes l'identité du remplaçant d'Alan Greenspan à la tête du conseil des gouverneurs de la Réserve Fédérale. Et ce remplaçant devrait être le barbu Ben Bernanke :
President Bush will nominate Ben S. Bernanke, his top economic adviser, to replace Alan Greenspan as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, a White House official said.Brad DeLong pense que c'est un très bon choix. Je suis d'accord : on peut certes reprocher à Bernanke son cheerleading un peu trop voyant depuis son arrivée à la présidence du Council of Economic Advisers, mais Bush pouvait difficilement trouver quelqu'un de plus qualifié et il aurait pu aisément faire pire (voire plus que pire). Voilà au moins une confirmation devant le Sénat qui ne devrait poser aucun problème.
Mr. Bernanke, 51, is expected to be named to the post at 1 p.m., said the official who asked not to be identified because of the pending announcement.
A former Federal Reserve governor, Mr. Bernanke has long been considered the favorite for the post, according to political experts, Wall Street analysts and economists. Mr. Bush appointed Mr. Bernanke, a Republican and former professor at Princeton University, to head the White House Council of Economic Advisors earlier this year.
